Assistant Compliance and Privacy Officer

The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, City agencies, and City employees, vendors with City contracts, individuals and entities that receive City funds.

DOI’s Executive Division seeks an experienced investigator to serve as Assistant Compliance & Privacy Officer. DOI’s Deputy Commissioner and Chief Compliance & Privacy Officer (“CCPO”) conducts confidential internal investigations and audits to ensure DOI and its workforce are compliant with relevant policies, procedures, laws, and other rules. In addition, the CCPO serves as the agency’s primary liaison with external auditors. The Assistant Compliance & Privacy Officer will assist the CCPO in the performance of these duties, including participating in investigative interviews, drafting memoranda, organizing and analyzing data, entering data into relevant databases, interacting with external auditors, preparing audit questionnaires and related paperwork, creating PowerPoint presentations, and drafting agency policies and procedures. In addition, the CCPO serves as the agency’s EEO Officer. As such, the Assistant Compliance & Privacy Officer will be required to assist in the performance of certain EEO functions as Deputy EEO Officer. These duties include preparing reasonable accommodations paperwork, participating in investigations, and organizing EEO-related information in relevant databases. The Assistant Compliance & Privacy Officer will also assist other executive staff members on other functions, such as investigations and data analysis.

If selected, the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation.

All candidates must have the approval of the Commissioner of Investigation and 12 months of experience in the exercise of discretion and professional judgment in significant policy matters related to criminal justice or areas particularly relevant to the unit to which the candidate will be assigned.

1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or

2.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above.

Preferred Skills

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time experience in investigation, auditing, law enforcement, law security, management analysis, or in a major operational area of the agency to which the assignment is to be made.
2. Proven ability to perform data analysis, analyze internal controls and policies, conduct interviews, write detailed reports, and give presentations on findings and data.
3. Experience with government agencies or law enforcement is a plus.
4. Experience with EEO functions is a plus.
5. Experience researching and drafting policies and procedures is a plus.
6. Strong interpersonal, written, and analytical skills.
7. Possess excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills, including V-lookup and pivot tables, and PowerPoint.
9. Ability to work well with all levels of staff and management.
10. Demonstrated ethics and sound judgment.
